Delete your account

The Owner can delete the account at any time. It is hidden at once and permanently deleted after 30 days. Export your data first.

If you no longer need Free Invoice Automation, the Owner can delete the account. Deletion happens in two steps: the account is hidden at once, so nobody can use it, and it is permanently deleted after a 30-day period. Because your invoices are often records you must keep for tax purposes, export everything before you delete.

Deleting an account deletes every business in it, with their clients, documents, payments, contracts and settings, for every member. Download your data first with Export everything.

Who can delete an account

  • Only the Owner. The account.delete permission belongs to the Owner role and cannot be given to any other role, not even Admin. Any other member who tries, from any surface, is refused.
  • The Owner must sign in again right before deleting. A session left open somewhere cannot be used to delete your account.
  • Over the API, an API key cannot delete the account: it is a fresh-sign-in action, done by a person in the web app.

If you are a member of someone else's account and want to leave it, ask the Owner or an Admin to remove you. If you want someone else to carry on with the account, transfer ownership instead of deleting.

What happens, step by step

WhenWhat happens
At onceThe account is soft-deleted and hidden. Members can no longer open it, and it disappears from everyone's switcher. Connections to Stripe, QuickBooks and Xero are revoked.
During the next 30 daysThe data is kept but hidden, then removed by our scheduled clean-up.
After 30 daysThe account and its data are permanently deleted from our live systems.
Up to about 12 monthsCopies remain inside our encrypted backups until those backups age out. If we ever restore a backup, deletions are applied again, so a deleted account does not come back.

Some records are kept for longer because the law requires it: the billing records of a Team subscription (the invoices we issued to you) are kept for up to 10 years. Contracts, signature evidence and sealed contract PDFs are deleted with the account, so export them first if you need them as evidence.

Before you delete

1

Export everything

Download your data in Settings > Data export and delete with Export everything. You get JSON, PDFs and CSV for the whole account. See Export your data.

2

Tell your clients

Pay links and the client portal belong to your account. Let clients with open invoices know how you would like to be paid from now on.

3

Check your Team subscription

If the account is on Team, review Settings > Billing so there are no surprises on your card. See Upgrade to Team.

4

Revoke API keys and integrations you set up elsewhere

Remove the API key from any scripts, WordPress sites or automation tools that used it, so they stop trying to connect.

Delete the account in the web app

1

Open Settings > Delete account

You must be the Owner of the account selected in the switcher. It sits next to Export everything in the Data export and delete section.

2

Sign in again

The app asks you to sign in again before continuing.

3

Read what will be deleted and confirm

Deletion is a destructive action, so the app shows what will happen and asks you to confirm.

The account is hidden straight away, and the deletion is recorded.

Through the API

DELETE /v1/account is the capability behind the button. It needs the Owner, a fresh sign-in, and "confirm": true, so it runs from the web app session rather than from an API key.

Your rights

Deleting your account is how you exercise your right to erasure under data protection law. If you cannot use the button, for example because you lost access, contact support from the email address on the account. We check that the request really comes from the account holder before acting, and answer within one month.

If you are a client of one of our users and want your data removed, contact that business: they decide about the data on their invoices. If you write to us, we pass your request to them.
