Paperless mission

Why Free Invoice Automation exists, what \"paperless\" means in the product, and how we talk about it honestly.

We built Free Invoice Automation to save trees. Paper invoices, printed copies and posted reminders use paper for work that can be done online. Keeping invoicing free removes the last reason to print: no business should need paper to get paid.

Our footer says it in one line: "Get paid today. Keep the trees for tomorrow."

What paperless means in the product

Paperless is not a slogan on top of the product; it is how the product works. Every step of getting paid happens online, so nothing needs to be printed or posted.

StepHow it happens without paper
CreateInvoices, estimates, credit notes and receipts are made in the browser, the app, the API or your AI assistant.
SendDocuments go out by email or a secure link, with a PDF for anyone who wants a file. No postage.
AgreeClients accept estimates online. From March 2027 they can sign contracts online too.
PayClients pay from the pay page by card, or see your bank details and tell you when they have paid.
Follow upReminders go by email (and later by other messaging channels), not by letter.
Keep recordsEvery sent document is stored with its history, and clients can open their documents from a link at any time.
CheckA verification code on each PDF lets anyone confirm online that an invoice is real, so there is no need for stamped paper copies.

Why free matters for paperless

Many people print because the digital tools cost money or limit how many invoices they can send. So we made every invoicing feature free:

  • Free forever: invoices, estimates, credit notes, reminders, payments, the API and the MCP server are all on the Free plan.
  • No cut of your payments: we never take a percentage of what your clients pay you.
  • No account needed for one invoice: the free invoice generator makes a PDF in your browser with no sign-up.

The Team plan pays for running the service. It adds members and comforts, never invoicing features. See Free and Team plans.

How we talk about it

We want every claim we make to be true and checkable. Rules for consumer claims about the environment are getting stricter, including in the European Union, and we agree with the spirit of them. So:

  • We tell the mission as our purpose: we built this to save trees.
  • We keep product claims factual: "paperless", "nothing to print or post", "never printed", "no postage". These describe what the product does.
  • We do not use broad environmental labels about ourselves or the product, and we do not publish numbers of trees or emissions saved. We have no documented, checked method that would make such numbers true, so we do not print them.
  • If we ever show a counter, it counts something we can measure from real data, such as invoices sent digitally. It does not convert them into trees.

If you write about Free Invoice Automation, we ask you to follow the same rules.

What you will see on our site

  • The site title "Free, paperless invoicing" and the announcement "Free and paperless, forever."
  • A "Zero paper. Zero printing." stamp seal and an illustrated forest in the footer. They tell the story; they are not a measurement.
  • Later, a counter of invoices sent digitally, taken from real data only.

Clean pages for your clients

Being paperless only helps if the online version is pleasant to use. Your clients see your business, not ours:

  • No ads, affiliate links or sponsors on the generator, your PDFs, the pay page, the client portal or the emails your clients receive.
  • No analytics on the pay, portal, pay-me or verification pages.
  • On Team, no "Powered by" line at all.

What you can do

  • Send every invoice by email or link instead of post. See Send a document.
  • Turn on reminders so you never need to post a reminder letter. See Reminders.
  • Let clients pay online from the pay page by card or bank transfer.
  • Point clients to the client portal for copies of past documents, instead of printing them.
